Low Income Household Water Assistance Program

Assistance with water and waste water arrearages for eligible clients living in enrolled municipalities.

To provide direct payment assistance for water and wastewater utilities designed to help households retain water service to help mitigate the spread of COVID-19, as well as to reimburse water utility providers for providing bill forgiveness for arrearages and fees
incurred by residential water customers.

Potential Assistance Offered

- Direct payment assistance for all water and wastewater utilities
- Reconnection or prevention of disconnection of service
- Reconnection fees

Eligibility Requirements

- At or below 150% Federal Poverty Level
- Currently receiving one of more of: TANF, SSI, SER, or FAP/SNAP

Eligible clients must live within a participating LIHWAP municipality to enroll in the program. To find out if your water provider is a participating municipality, please call 269-925-9077 to speak to an SMCAA staff member.
