2023 Golden Acorn Award for Excellence
Awarded by Berrien Community Foundation (BCF) - September 2023
SMCAA was honored at the annual BCF meeting and celebration for their work in providing food boxes to the community in need during BFC's Backpacks for Good events. SMCAA serviced nearly 450 families over 4 summer events, providing boxes stocked with nutritious meals.
Along with the recognition, SMCAA received a $3,000 grant.
2022 National Promise
in Action Award

The Promise in Action Award recognizes Community Action agencies that have been diligently caring for the entire community and remain dedicated to helping people help themselves and each other amidst catastrophe. SMCAA was presented this award at a gala in New York City hosted by NCAP.
2022 Best Places to Work Awardee

Best Places to Work recognizes the type of business that everyone would like to work at – they’re the businesses that are going above and beyond for their team and the community, setting the gold standard for others to aspire to. These companies clearly stand head and shoulders above all others in the region and have been able to excel at what they do regularly.
2022 Volunteer of the Year:
Marletta Seats
Awarded by Michigan Community Action Association during the Community Action Month, Day at the Capitol event- May 2022
Marletta Seats has been a volunteer of SMCAA for over a decade. From her church, Abundant Life, she offers monthly commodities and special TEFAP distributions. She also stepped up to assist with clean drinking water in the City of Benton Harbor by being the first faith-based host site for water pick-up.
2020 Impact Cabinet's Choice Awardee
Awarded by United Way of Southwest Michigan during their 2nd Annual Celebration Awards - May 2021
This award recognizes an organization or individual who deserves recognition that can’t be easily categorized. The Cabinet reserves the right to use this award to highlight those who tirelessly serve the community in ways that may not be visible or obvious, or who work in ways that create meaningful but not necessarily tangible results.
2020 Non-Profit Excellence Awardee
Awarded by the Southwest Michigan Regional Chamber and the Cornerstone Alliance during their 2020 Business Recognition Annual Meeting & Awards Ceremony - March 2021
This award recognized 2020 as a difficult year for everyone and celebrated local businesses and business professionals who stepped up to support the SWMI community and showed how to aid others through resiliency and the ability to survive.
