Benton Harbor, Whirlpool contribute to food box giveaway

BENTON HARBOR — For the eighth year in a row, the Southwest Michigan Community Action Agency is launching its Holiday Food Sharing Program, sponsored by the city of Benton Harbor, Whirlpool Corp. and the PGA of America.

According to a news release, the Holiday Food Sharing Program collects and distributes about 400 food boxes and turkeys to Benton Harbor, Benton Township and St. Joseph families each year. Since the program’s creation in 2015, the SMCAA has helped more than 2,800 families in the area.

“With Benton Harbor being home to the KitchenAid Senior PGA Championship, this community is deeply important to us,” said Brandon Haney, championship director for the KitchenAid Senior PGA Championship, in the release. “Delivering meals to local families in need is just one small way we give back and show our appreciation during the holiday season.”
